Motif Editing offers a full range of editing and proofing services. From a quick copyedit of your resume, to a full structural edit of your manuscript or thesis. From a fresh pair of eyes over your zine to a full, professional proofread of your laid-out memoir, novel or cookbook.
Bring me your half-baked ideas, your unfinished thoughts, and your messy drafts! I know what it feels like to share a new work, and I will treat yours with the utmost gentleness and respect. I will also make it better. Years of study, training, and practise have given me the skills to polish written works of all shapes and sizes. But I won't just take to your baby with a red pen – I will talk you through the process, explain what I'm doing and why, and empower you to develop your voice.

Writing advice
Have you finished a first draft, or got a bit stuck along the way? A manuscript assessment is a great way to get an idea of what’s working well, and where there might be some issues.
Manuscript assessment
This is big-picture stuff – looking at the overarching structure of your piece and thinking about how it all hangs together.
Structural editing
Sometimes called line editing, this is sentence-level editing to make sure your grammar, punctuation and word choice are all conveying the meaning you want them to.
Copyediting
One of the last points before printing/publishing, this involves going over your work with a fine-toothed comb to make sure every comma is in the right place, all the margins and headings are consistent, images are placed correctly, etc, etc.
Proofreading
Old-fashioned publishing deals are rare as hens’ teeth these days, but there are more alternatives than ever before. There are also a few pitfalls to be wary of. I can talk you through the process or project-manage your book from first draft to publication.
